Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience (GA323) in Athletics. This position's primary function is to develop and execute all marketing, promotional and engagement efforts for 14 University-sponsored Division I men's and women's athletic teams on campus and in the community and surrounding areas. By planning and delivering an exceptional "game day experience" for all fans as well as other events that represent the Longwood Lancer brand, the Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience represents the front porch of the Athletics Department. This position will participate in the planning of the new Joan Perry Brock Convocation Center as it relates to the roles and responsibilities of the position.

 

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead and manage marketing operations for 14 Division I intercollegiate sports, including overseeing mascot, cheerleading, dance, and band appearances.
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student interns (game-day marketing and promotions) and paid interns.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for Longwood University Athletics.
• Create and manage the annual marketing and promotional plans for athletics.
• Oversee promotional efforts for all home contests and ensure their integration into game-day experiences.
• Cultivate, strengthen, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and constituents, both internal and external to the university.
• Execute all entertainment elements at Longwood Lancer home athletic events, including but not limited to: Management of in-game audio and visual content.  Development of interactive opportunities for fans to engage during events. Fulfillment of sponsorship commitments related to in-game promotions.
• Foster and grow key relationships with university student organizations and community action groups through social media and in-person engagement.
• Assist in the planning and execution of game-day experiences for the new Joan Perry Brock Convocation Center.
• Oversee the Lancer Kids Club program, ensuring an engaging and exciting experience for young fans.
• Maintain the highest standards of excellence and customer service for all services provided.
• Manage customer response operations by establishing work schedules, assigning tasks to interns, and providing backup as needed.
• Coordinate information and requirements with related departments to maintain smooth work processes.
• Keep management informed by preparing reports, making presentations, and interpreting data to provide actionable recommendations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Master's preferred, or Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of work experience and training
• Strong leadership skills
• Possess outstanding written and verbal communication and organizational skills
• Experience working with video editing
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
• Knowledge and understanding of NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations
• Experience playing, working in, or around, a college athletics program preferred
• Experience running summer camps and clinics preferred
