Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field and five or more years of related experience. Registered Dietitian (RD) certification and eligible for licensure in State of Kentucky. Ability to work evening and weekend hours and travel, if needed. Grade 7.
Position Description:
The Manager, Sports Nutrition oversees all aspects of Sports Nutrition for the University of Louisville Football program. Primary responsibilities include team and individual nutrition care, medical nutrition therapy, creating food service systems and team meals, managing databases, and ordering systems as well as directing intern and student work force. The Manager, Sports Nutrition for Football reports directly to the Senior Manager, Sports Nutrition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all aspects of the Football Nutrition program to achieve optimal athletic performance.
Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of student athletes in the context of athletic performance and health.
Evaluate and counsel student athletes on optimal nutritional practices for exercise training, competition, recovery from practice, recovery from injury and illness, weight management, hydration supplementation and legal use of dietary supplements, regularly banned drugs and restricted substances in compliance with sport governing bodies.
Provide recommendation on appropriate fluids and snacks for pre, during, and post exercise training, practices, and competitions for peak performance.
Identify and advise on medical related nutrition concerns including but not limited to iron deficient anemia, sickle cell, disordered eating, diabetes, bone mineral disturbances, amenorrhea, dyslipidemia, hypertension, gastrointestinal concerns, food allergies and intolerances, and other medical conditions.
Conduct screenings for disordered eating and eating disorders and refer for treatment as necessary.
Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short term and long term goals for athletic performance and health.
Actively participate in meal monitoring and plate side nutrition education for student athletes at daily meals, events, and team specific pregame meals.
Document nutrition services provided and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes.
Attend workouts, practices, and games (home and away) to provide the care, education, and fuel necessary for peak performance.
Responsible for menu implementation and consultation with culinary staff (Aramark, hotels, other food vendors) to execute fueling needs and goals.
Attend team meals and actively coach student athletes to educate and enhance student athlete meal choices. As well as grocery store tours, food storage, use of per diem and food preparation (cooking classes).
Coordinate and communicate travel nutrition need for assigned team.
Provide consistent communication to coaching staff, strength & conditioning staff, athletic trainers, team physicians, mental health staff, and administration regarding sports nutrition and sports performance related issues as well as advise on areas for improvement.
Make referrals when appropriate and collaborate with relevant allied health care providers within the Sports Medicine department as well as the student athletes existing health care network.
Responsible for the coordination, development, and oversight of nutrition education materials, social media, and onsite athlete dining education.
Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance.
Provide prospective student athletes and family members with a comprehensive overview of performance nutrition services.
Attend official visits, junior days, and other recruiting activities on campus and conduct presentations on nutritional services and programs during recruiting weekends.
Order, inventory, and procurement of goods through necessary vendors for athletic fueling stations.
Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of University of Louisville, the ACC Conference, and the NCAA. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
Support Cardinal Athletic Fund in partnerships and trade agreements to benefit all student athletes.
Maintain professional competency and skills required for professional practice, including but not limited to current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
Maintain yearly continuing education in the field of sports dietetics.
Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary, integrated performance team.
Create and maintain relationships with community organizations and leaders for benefit of department.
Responsible for Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and scheduling undergraduate volunteers as Fueling Station Product Managers.
Provide education and mentorship to sports nutrition undergraduate volunteers and dietitian fellows.
Supervise and train student workers, interns, and fellows.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Nutrition, dietetics or related field.
Experience in collegiate Division I program.
Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, CSSD or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, CSCS.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
